Choosing Children's Literature

If you are planning to buy a children's literature for your chidren or for library,it is necessary to buy best brand of books.you can have your own criterias for selection of best books.A good guide to follow is to select age appropriate books, books that tell an interesting story, books that teach a lesson without being too preachy, and books with beautiful illustrations particularly for younger children who love picture books.

Buying age appropriate books is so important. If you are selecting books for a baby shower, you might want to buy some very elementary picture books and some books that are for toddlers who can listen to a longer story. Even if you miss the mark here, the new mother can put the book on the shelf until the baby is old enough to appreciate it. Even reading to newborns has proven effective in helping children to become readers.

As children age, so should the books they read. You can add more complex stories that are beautifully illustrated. The Velveteen Rabbit is a must have for any child boy or girl. The very inexpensive Golden Books are wonder stories for small children. As they age and begin to read, they can start reading them by themselves. As the child becomes a more proficient reader in the upper elementary grades, he will more than likely graduate to chapter books that have fewer illustrations or pictures. These stories are more complex and help a child broaden his comprehension skills.

By the time a child becomes a reader, he should visit the bookstore with his parents and begin to choose his own books. Of course, the local public library is a free way to fill your child's life with books. As much as possible, allow your child to choose his own books even if they seem too advanced. These books will help him to improve and you can help him with any words that give him problems. Children's literature grows with children giving them a myriad of choices to enjoy.

Because every child is different in his interests and hobbies, finding the right book means knowing your child. A small baby doesn't really care about the story. Infant books are generally pictures of small animals, shapes, and other babies. There is very little story and are perfect for babies. As the child gets older, the books can have a little more story. This is where the Golden Books are so great. A very popular one is the Pokey Little Puppy. The story is adorable and very sweet. Another lovely story is I Will Love You Forever. It's a perfect book to help your child understand the true meaning of love.

One of the best books to teach lessons that aren't preachy is the Bernstein Bears. The little bears learn a lesson in every book. Some of the lessons are about cleaning your room, never running away, respecting your parents, and the importance of friends. The stories are always very funny while at the same time teaching important lessons. The illustrations are pretty funny too because the bears are dressed and act like humans.

When children gradate to chapter books, they really need to start choosing their own books because they should reflect their interests. Some children enjoy mystery, biographies, sports books, fantasy stories, and even non fiction subjects. No matter what the subject, reading is fundamental in a child's growth and education. It is a proven fact that readers make better students.
